Twins drop Bronx opener as WC edge narrows

NEW YORK -- Aaron Judge hit his American League-leading 44th home run and Jaime Garcia turned in his best start for his new club, helping the Yankees solidify their postseason odds with a 2-1 victory over the Twins on Monday evening at Yankee Stadium.

In what could be a preview of the American League Wild Card game, the Yankees closed within 2 1/2 games of the Red Sox in the AL East -- pending the outcome of Boston's contest against the Orioles in Baltimore -- and padded their advantage to five games over the Twins for the first AL Wild Card.
