Good pitching and timely hitting have been a staple for Siegel's baseball all season.
Unfortunately for the Stars, Summit used the same formula in defeating Siegel 7-2 on Tuesday in the first round of the Spring Fling Class AAA state tournament in a matchup of first-time participants.
Siegel will face the Sevier County-Collierville loser Wednesday at 10 a.m. and will play at 5 p.m. if it wins the first elimination game.
Siegel got the lead-off batter on six of seven innings, but managed just five hits and stranded nine baserunners.
"We got the lead-off man on six out of seven innings, but we did nothing," said Siegel coach Craig Reavis.
