Michigan basketball and the final 72 hours of a season cut short by a force of nature

For Phil Martelli, the hardest day of the year as a basketball coach is the day after his team's last game.

No matter when or how the season ends, Martelli is filled with a "wiped-out feeling" the next day.

His 43rd season as a coach came to an end this week.

And it was nothing like he had ever experienced.

On Thursday morning, 20 minutes before Michigan basketball tipped off against Rutgers at Bankers Life Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, the Big Ten canceled the rest of the conference tournament due to concerns about the coronavirus outbreak.
