East Lansing — Michigan State avenged an earlier loss to Michigan, defeating the No. 21 Wolverines 66-61 Sunday afternoon at the Breslin Center.
The Spartans, which led by as many as 14 points in the second half, had to hold off a late Michigan comeback to end their six-game losing streak while handing the Wolverines their third loss in the last four games.
Michigan (20-7, 9-5) cut the deficit to 64-61 with 1:30 left on Katelynn Flaherty’s 3-pointer and had the chance to pull even in the final minute, but didn’t get a shot off — thanks to a shot-clock violation — after a timeout with 50 seconds left.
