Three players from the University of Michigan football team and one from Michigan State cracked the preseason watch list for the nation's best defensive player.
Michigan's Chase Winovich, Rashan Gary and Devin Bush are on the 85-player watch list for the Chuck Bednarik Award, joining Michigan State's Joe Bachie, it was unveiled Monday.
The Bednarik Award is given out annually by the Maxwell Football Club to the nation's best defensive player. Alabama's Minkah Fitzpatrick, a former All-American, won the award in 2017.
Winovich, a defensive end, enters his senior season at Michigan after earning all-Big Ten honors last season.
