Michigan State senior linebacker Joe Bachie has been suspended by the Big Ten over a failed drug test, the university announced Thursday afternoon.
A Michigan State spokesman said Bachie tested positive for a substance that is considered performance-enhancing, and is banned by the league.
Michigan State didn't identify the substance; the school is appealing the ruling.
“Joe Bachie has built himself into an All-Big Ten middle linebacker and two-time team captain through his incredible work ethic and leadership skills. This situation breaks my heart, but I know Joe is resilient and accountable," Michigan State coach Mark Dantonio said in a statement.
