MADISON, Wis. — It became a repeating cycle of problems, an exercise in football futility.

Go three-and-out on offense. Give up a long, time-consuming possession on defense.

Repeat. One drive after the next.

Mark Dantonio watched and simmered. What he saw from Wisconsin on Saturday looked much like the Michigan State program he built into a dominant force for much of the decade.
