New Michigan State football coach Mel Tucker has had more prospective debut opponents than he has had full practices.
Season-opening opponent No. 3 was revealed Saturday, and the Spartans are preparing to host Rutgers on Oct. 24 in a battle of new coaches with Greg Schiano’s return. It was part of the Big Ten’s third schedule release.
Things are expected to get harder immediately for Tucker, with MSU scheduled to travel to Michigan and Iowa in back to back weeks on Oct. 31 and Nov. 7, respectively. It would be the Spartans second straight game in Ann Arbor, something that would help them break up marquee home games with the Wolverines and Ohio State in future years.
