EAST LANSING - Michigan State followed an early bye week last September with a win at Notre Dame.
Two seasons ago, a bye preceded an upset loss at Nebraska in November for the Spartans' only defeat of the regular season.
"I don't know that there's any perfect time and I don't know that there's any bad time, I guess I'd say," Michigan State coach Mark Dantonio said of a bye. "So, we just take it as it comes."
Michigan State (2-0) is now on its bye week for the 2017 season and Dantonio said how the team plays after it will define whether the timing was right.
