30 Michigan State athletes test positive for COVID-19, a decrease from last week

There was a slight downturn in the percentage of Michigan State athletes that tested positive for COVID-19 in the latest round of testing conducted by the school.

The athletic department reported Wednesday that 30 student-athletes and two staff members tested positive for COVID-19 between Sept. 15-21, out of 369 overall tests (328 athletes, 41 staff members).

That comes to a positivity rate of 8.6 percent.

Between Sept. 7-14, the positive rate was around 12 percent, with 45 MSU athletes testing positive.

The results were not broken down by sport.

Since the beginning of June (fall sports athletes have been allowed to practice on camus since June 15), MSU has conducted more than 2,320 tests on student-athletes and staff members, with 123 positive results for players and eight with staff members.
