Heat’s Wayne Ellington just misses cut to make 3-point contest final | Miami Herald

Wayne Ellington got red-hot in the three-point contest Saturday night – unfortunately it wasn’t enough to get him into the finals.

The Heat’s three-point extraordinaire reeled off nine conecutive makes between the third, fourth and final rack during the contest and finished with 17 points.

But when Warriors All-Star guard Klay Thompson, the next-to-last contest of the eight, buried his final shot – a money ball from the corner – it broke a 17-all tie with Ellington and eliminated the Heat guard, placing him just outside of the top three who advanced to the finals.

Suns guard Devin Booker then edged Thompson, the 2016 champion, in the final 28-25 to win the crown at Staples Center.
