MM 9.16: 13 Maryland teams return to practice after COVID-19 outbreak

After suffering a significant COVID-19 outbreak just over a week ago, 13 Maryland fall sports teams have resumed practice, a spokesperson said Tuesday afternoon.

Maryland officially put all athletic activities on hold on Sept. 3, following 46 positive tests among student athletes across 10 different teams. Since then, the athletic department has conducted 2,192 tests, with 63 coming back positive, putting the positivity rate at 2.9 percent.

Though seven teams still cannot hold practices yet, football is one of the programs that has resumed practicing. A gradual return to athletic activities for the Terps is a promising development, as rumors of Big Ten fall sports returning have begun circulate this week.
