Erik ten Hag admits Cristiano Ronaldo is 'p***** off' at sitting on the bench but insists the Portuguese star is happy at Man United amid rumours he will leave in January

Erik ten Hag says it is understandable Cristiano Ronaldo is 'p***** off' when he is not starting games for Manchester United but insists he is happy at the club.

The Portuguese star, 37, was left on the bench during Sunday's 6-3 defeat at Manchester City with Ten Hag suggesting afterwards he didn't bring him on 'out of respect' for his career.

Ronaldo was dropped after United's 4-0 loss at Brentford in August and has started every Premier League game on the bench since.

Cristiano Ronaldo has become accustomed to sitting on the bench at Man United this season

His only starts have been against Real Sociedad and Sheriff Tiraspol in the UEFA Europa League, raising speculation he will leave in January.
