The Rockies are a deeply unserious franchise, but they're making a very uncharacteristic effort to legitimize themselves again this offseason. They started by hiring Paul DePodesta — best known for being the guy Jonah Hill's character in Moneyball was based on — as their president of baseball operations. DePodesta has not worked in baseball since 2015 and spent 10 seasons with NFL's Cleveland Browns.
He spent some time with the Dodgers (among others) before switching over to football. He was hired as the Dodgers' GM in 2004 (the youngest ever at the time), but was fired just a year later after the Dodgers posted a 71-91 record in 2005.
