HOUSTON -- Albert Pujols' 2,994th career hit was a homer off a pitcher who had essentially shut down the Angels for six innings during Wednesday's game.
Pujols' solo homer in the seventh inning was only the second hit allowed by Houston starter Justin Verlander, who carried a perfect game into the fifth before Zack Cozart lobbed a base hit into center field.
Pujols entered the game slashing .300/.432/.600 with two homers in his career against Verlander.
The homer was Pujols' 64th against the Astros, including the postseason.
