'Brendan isn't given the credit he deserves': Jordan Henderson pays tribute to ex-Liverpool boss Rodgers in his first programme notes as a Premier League winner as he thanks him for the 'brave' call to make him captain

Jordan Henderson has thanked Brendan Rodgers for the role the ex-Liverpool boss had had on his development - and for handing him the captain's armband.

After Steven Gerrard left the club in the summer of 2015, Rodgers appointed Henderson as the new club captain.

Though Rodgers was sacked in October of that year, Henderson has gone on to skipper the club to English, European and world glory in the past 14 months - and the former Sunderland man has not forgotten Rodgers' role in his career.

'I think on the outside Brendan probably isn't given the credit he deserves for the role he played in our journey as a club,' Henderson said, in his programme notes ahead of Sunday's clash against Aston Villa.
