University of Kentucky continues to see spike in COVID-19 cases among students

As the state of Kentucky continues to see new daily coronavirus cases spike, the University of Kentucky has become one of the Commonwealth’s hot spots.

Per UK’s testing numbers as of September 2, 723, students have tested positive for COVID-19 since they began their testing initiative on August 3. The testing initiative began by testing the entire student body for the virus upon arrival on campus and then focused in on students affiliated with Greek life.

Of those 723 positives, 288 have recovered, and 485 cases are active.

The Lexington-Fayette County Health Department’s numbers, which count UK students that test positive and quarantine in Lexington and do not exclude those who did not get tested by the University, reports there have been 880 cases since the beginning of the pandemic.
