NCAA council approves one-time transfer rule, per report

Starting this fall, college football and basketball players will be allowed to transfer one time without having to sit out one year of competition.

According to the Associated Press, the NCAA Division I Council voted in favor of the one-time transfer rule today. The organization won’t announce the decision until tomorrow, when the two-day meeting ends, and it still has to be approved by the Board of Directors on April 28, but today’s vote makes it all but official. Until now, undergraduate student-athletes in football, men’s and women’s basketball, men’s ice hockey, and baseball either had to sit out one season after transferring, or apply for a hardship waiver for immediate eligibility.
