Former Jayhawk Andrea Geubelle, former UMKC runner Courtney Frerichs qualify for Olympics

Former Kansas athlete Andrea Geubelle will represent the United States in this summer’s Olympics.

Geubelle, who was part of KU’s track and field team from 2010-13, finished third in the triple jump during Thursday’s Olympic trials in Eugene, Ore., qualifying with a mark of 45 feet, 9 1/4 inches.

She is the second athlete with Jayhawk ties to qualify for the games in Rio, as senior thrower Daina Levy will compete for Jamaica in the hammer throw.

Geubelle, originally from University Place, Wash., was a three-time NCAA champion at KU.

Keturah Orji (46 feet, 11 3/4 inches) and Christina Epps (46 feet, 6 inches) took first and second in the triple jump to also earn spots on the U.
