Following a year in the Royals’ front office as a special advisor to player development in 2019, Mike Matheny was named Royals manager last October.
This is his second managerial stint, following a six and a half year run at the helm in St. Louis. His Cardinals won 591 games during that tenure, the most wins in baseball during that time. St. Louis clinched a Wild Card berth in Matheny’s first season as manager in 2012 and won the National League Central division the next three years from 2013–15, making him the first manager in Major League history to reach the postseason in each of his first four seasons.
