The Royals on Friday traded outfielder Jarrod Dyson to Seattle for right-handed pitcher Nate Karns.
After adding right fielder Jorge Soler in a trade with the Chicago Cubs, the Royals had a surplus of outfielders.
Karns, 29, was 6-2 with a 5.15 ERA in 94 1/3 innings in 2016. He made 15 starts and 22 appearances. He missed the last two months of the season because of a lower back strain.
This is a developing story.
