Darwin Thompson still following advice of a mentor: ‘Believe in yourself’

Kansas City Chiefs running back Darwin Thompson hasn’t had the best of luck since joining the team as a sixth-round draft pick in 2019.

Already stuck behind Damien Williams and Darrel Williams — not to mention Carlos Hyde — the Chiefs made things more difficult by acquiring veteran LeSean McCoy as Thompson’s rookie season began. Over 12 games in 2019, Thompson touched the ball just 46 times, gaining 171 yards and scoring a single touchdown.

Things didn’t get much better in 2020, after the Chiefs signed DeAndre Washington in free agency, drafted Clyde Edwards-Helaire in the first round — and then at midseason, picked up former All-Pro Le’Veon Bell.
