INDIANAPOLIS — The Indianapolis Colts have waived Chad Kelly, according to the NFL’s transactions wire, after the backup quarterback served a two-game suspension.

If Kelly is not claimed by another team by 4 p.m. Thursday, the Colts can place him on the practice squad.

Kelly, who was the backup in Denver last fall before an arrest for criminal trespassing ended his time with the Broncos, made a splash for Indianapolis in the preseason. Kelly completed 74% of his passes for 583 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions, started the final two games, and he finished second on the team in preseason rushing with 10 carries for 108 yards.
