Illinois State women picked sixth, men seventh in preseason Missouri Valley Conference basketball polls; TeTe Maggett, Zach Copeland net individual recognition

Tabbed as the men's favorite was Missouri State, which received 410 points and 29 of 44 first-place votes from the league's coaches, sports information directors and media.

Bradley was second (368, five first-place votes), followed by Northern Iowa (343, three first-place votes), Loyola (340, six first-place votes), Drake (243), Indiana State (210), Illinois State (193, one first-place vote), Evansville (132), Valparaiso (98) and Southern Illinois (83).

Copeland averaged 9.3 points and 3.0 assists per game last year in his first season with the Redbirds, making 53 3-pointers and nearly 85 percent of his free throw tries.

The ISU women had 212 points in the poll to trail Drake (359, 31 first-place votes), Missouri State (329, eight first-place votes), Northern Iowa (297, one first-place vote), Bradley (255) and Southern Illinois (235).
