Illinois State football turns to tight end Mitchell Lewis for late-season contribution

NORMAL — In the injury muddled world of the Illinois State football team's offense, precious little has gone according to form.

So when the Redbirds defeated Southeast Missouri in a first-round FCS playoff game last Saturday, naturally the player with the most receptions had not previously hauled in a pass all season.

ISU passed just seven times with James Robinson chewing up the Redhawks on the ground, but tight end Mitchell Lewis grabbed two of those passes for 12 yards.

“It was definitely nice to get those on the board, for sure,” said Lewis, who moved up the depth chart when Tanner Taula was sidelined with a concussion.
