Massey wins Gold Glove

CHAMPAIGN — Illinois second baseman Michael Massey was named the ABCA/Rawlings Gold Glove Award winner for second base, Rawlings announced Wednesday on Twitter.

Massey edged out three other finalists, including Louisiana's Hunter Kasuls, Oregon State's Nick Madrigal — the fourth-overall pick in this month's MLB Draft by the Chicago White Sox — and Duke's Max Miller.

Massey made only one error while starting all 53 games at second base and finished the year with a .996 fielding percentage. He became the first Illini to win a Gold Glove in the 12-year history of the award.

The sophomore went on a 60-game errorless streak, from April 22, 2017 through May 12.
