Breaking down the Warriors’ options with the No. 2 NBA draft pick

Thursday night’s draft lottery result was a boon for a Warriors organization that spent the last year toiling through departures, injuries and losses.

This No. 2 draft pick is the consolation prize for such a season — in which the Warriors posted a league-worst 15-50 record in their inaugural year at Chase Center. If the pick hits, it can also set them up to avoid such a season for the next decade.

General manager Bob Myers knows these opportunities are rare. Like in 2016, when a salary cap spike gave the Warriors the ability to sign Kevin Durant; or in 2018, when DeMarcus Cousins agreed to sign at a discount, they won’t let the chance to add a franchise-changing talent pass by — even if the fit might be questionable.
