A combination of a new scheme, new-ish players, and immense pressure to prove themselves caused for soft and porous run defense in the early going.
Confusion on assignments, poor run fits, poor tackling, players playing out of position, trying to do too much; you name it. This defense was plagued with just about every feasible excuse one could drum up.
Though the season couldn’t have started much worse for this unit, they look to have turned the corner in recent weeks.
It has become evident the players are learning the scheme and are figuring out their roles.
