ESPN backs Dillon Gabriel’s claim: UCF, not UF, is best team in the state | Commentary

After the UCF Knights blew out Georgia Tech by four touchdowns in their season opener Saturday, sensational sophomore quarterback Dillon Gabriel, unsolicited, laid claim to the Knights being “the best team in the state.” Of course, Florida Gators fans on social media were up in arms about Gabriel’s assertion and immediately began attacking UCF’s strength of schedule.

You know my feeling on this: It’s not UCF’s fault it doesn’t play a Southeastern Conference schedule. Last I checked, the Knights hadn’t been extended an invitation to the SEC. And let’s not forget, if UCF did play an SEC schedule that would mean UCF would actually be in the SEC — with all of the residual resources, recruiting advantages and TV money that come with being in the premier conference in college football.
