One of the more fun aspects of basketball, in many ways more fun than any other sport, is tracking rising talents.

It’s hard to think of a baseball or football player who caused as much excitement as Lew Alcindor, as Kareem Abdul-Jabbar was called in high school. You could make an argument for Wayne Gretzky and perhaps young Mike Tyson, but they were rarities.

In basketball we’ve seen the same frenzy with Ralph Sampson, Kenny Anderson and LeBron James, to name a few. There are more.

Two of the most promising players to come along in a while are Emoni Bates, who is 16, 6-9 and 205, and Chet Holmgren, who is 18, seven feet tall and 190.
