The Detroit Tigers will open Grapefruit League play on Feb. 23 against the New York Yankees at George Steinbrenner Field in Tampa.
It will be the first meeting between the two teams since a series of bench-clearing incidents on Aug. 24 in Detroit.
Is it too much to hope for some fireworks in the first game of spring training? Probably so.
In any event, the Tigers and Yankees will see plenty of each other this spring. The Grapefruit League schedule, released on Monday, appears to prioritize ease of travel.
The Tigers, based in Lakeland, will make plenty of trips to Orlando and the nearby Tampa area, but there are few lengthy bus rides.
