Former Detroit Tigers first base coach Omar Vizquel will serve as a manager in the Chicago White Sox minor-league system in 2018, according to Venezuelan journalist Efrain Zavarce.

Vizquel, 50, played 24 seasons in the big leagues, including two with the White Sox, and joined the Tigers after retirement.

He interviewed to replace Brad Ausmus, but the Tigers ultimately hired Ron Gardenhire. Vizquel was not among the coaches retained to serve on Gardenhire's staff.

Zavarce reported that Vizquel will manage in Winston-Salem, N.C., for the White Sox' Class A (Advanced) affiliate in the Carolina League.
