Alex Avila hit a two-out solo home run to tack on another run to the Tigers' lead. Miguel Cabrera followed him up with a double into the right center field gap. Victor Martinez grounded deep into the shift in shallow right field for a single, moving Cabrera to third. However, J.D. Martinez flew out to deep right field for the final out.
Jose Iglesias singled up the middle to start the inning but Andrew Romine grounded into a double play in the next at-bat.
