The Detroit Tigers returned to Comerica Park on Tuesday afternoon to a strange scene: Their fans seemed to be out-numbered by a legion of Cubs fans.
It made for an interesting series opener, as a decidedly bipartisan crowd offered their thoughts on the game. But when it was all said and done, Tigers fans cheered the loudest.
Keyed by a strong start from right-hander Jordan Zimmermann, who was backed by just enough offense, the Tigers beat the Cubs, 2-1.
Zimmermann threw six innings, allowing one run without his best stuff.
The Tigers’ two runs in the bottom of the first inning held up: Jeimer Candelario doubled to open the inning, then scored on a fielder’s choice by Nicholas Castellanos, and Victor Martinez hit a two-out RBI single.
