Red Wings fall to Sabres with 0.2 seconds left in overtime

DETROIT - Sixty minutes of mostly dull hockey was followed by a thrilling five-minute overtime. Make that 4:59 and 0.8 seconds of overtime.

Marco Scandella scored with 0.2 seconds remaining in OT Thursday to lift the Buffalo Sabres to a 3-2 victory over the Detroit Red Wings at Little Caesars Arena.

The reasons why the Red Wings are destined to miss the playoffs for the second year in a row are plentiful. Near the top is their inability to win at home against teams they should defeat.

The Sabres have the second-worst record in the league and were missing their best player, Jack Eichel, but they found a way to beat the Red Wings (24-26-10), who have lost three in a row (0-2-1) - the first three of this four-game homestand.
