Henrik Zetterberg got proceedings underway with his fifth goal of the season. The captain maneuvered his way into the Panthers defensive zone and fired home. Trevor Daley was credited with the assist.
The Panthers wouldn’t find an answer until the third period when Vincent Trocheck scored his team-leading 13th goal of the season on the power play. Jonathan Huberdeau and Aleksander Barkov picked up the assists.
Mike Matheson scored the game-winner in overtime. Following a Red Wings turnover, Jimmy Howard did his best to keep out an initial attempt from Matheson and a rebound try by Nick Bjugstad.
