Detroit Red Wings prospects help Griffins to 1-1 series in playoffs

A pair of Detroit Red Wings prospects helped the Grand Rapids Griffins return home with a split series in the AHL playoffs.

Evgeny Svechnikov scored during Sunday’s 5-1 victory at Manitoba, evening the first-round, best-of-five series, 1-1. Grand Rapids hosts Game 3 Wednesday and Game 4 Thursday. If necessary, Game 5 would be April 30, also in Grand Rapids.

Svechnikov, the Wings’ first-round draft pick from 2015, struggled in his second season of pro hockey, with 23 points in 57 games (he reached 20 goals as a rookie, among 51 points in 74 games in 2016-17).
