In a season full of challenges for the Detroit Red Wings, fielding a competitive lineup keeps growing more difficult.
Andreas Athanasiou wasn’t having a good first half of the season but he has the skill set to be a scoring threat, and the Wings won’t have that available for two to three weeks because he suffered a lower-body injury during the weekend.
The Wings already are without Anthony Mantha, who is out through January with a rib-cage injury, and defenseman Danny DeKeyser, who underwent season-ending back surgery this month.
