Nuggets’ deadline trades were a win, even if you can’t see it yet

Casual hoop heads might frame Denver’s minor activity at Thursday’s trade deadline a loss. Star guard Jrue Holiday is still in New Orleans, and the Nuggets didn’t do anything splashy enough to vault them ahead of the presumed title contenders in Los Angeles.

That’s a logical line of thinking, especially when this season doesn’t have the cloud of a Golden State dynasty looming over it.

But dismiss what the Nuggets did at your own risk. They essentially offloaded three players in Malik Beasley, Juancho Hernangomez and Jarred Vanderbilt who didn’t have defined futures with the team. For Beasley and Hernangomez, the writing was on the wall when they didn’t reach extensions in October.
