Kiszla: Pain of the Broncos’ football-gods-must-hate-us loss to Chicago will eat team alive

The pain of this football-gods-must-hate-us, no-way-did-that-just-happen defeat is going to leave a permanent mark on the Broncos’ soul.

Watching a 53-yard field goal beat them 16-14, in a game the Broncos were certain they had already won, after officials put one lousy second back on the scoreboard clock, was more football madness than Denver linebacker Bradley Chubb could bear. Out of his mind with anger and disbelief, Chubb hurled his helmet like an inconsolable child as victorious Chicago Bears danced all around him.

Shaking his head, Broncos veteran Derek Wolfe walked slowly toward the middle of Denver’s locker room 15 minutes after the game was over, searching for somebody, anybody, to tell him it was all a bad dream.
