Broncos’ kicker and union representative Brandon McManus on Wednesday stood by the decision to release a statement in mid-April declaring that he and his teammates would boycott the voluntary portion of on-site workouts.
McManus estimated the players who stayed away until the start of organized team activities last month were equal parts concerned about COVID-19 and because they wanted to train on their own schedule.
The statement on April 13 from the Broncos’ players read, in part, that it “makes no sense for us as players to put ourselves at risk,” during the voluntary portion of the offseason program.
