Thought to be unlikely when free agency opened last week, defensive end Shelby Harris agreed to a one-year contract late Friday night to remain with the Broncos.

According to a source, Harris talked with coach Vic Fangio on Thursday about Harris’ role if he opted to stay with the team.

The contract is worth $2.5 million guaranteed and incentives can carry it above $3 million.

Harris started the first four games last year at nose tackle before moving to defensive end for the final 12 games. He led the Broncos’ defensive linemen in snaps played (646 of 1,081) and led all NFL defensive linemen in pass break-ups (nine).
