Assessment of Jaylon Smith by Cowboys defensive coordinator: "He's just so hungry.''

Rod Marinelli has had the chance to sit down and review tape of Jaylon Smith's debut.

His assessment?

"Oh, boy,'' the Cowboys defensive coordinator said. "Good instincts. Speed.

"Man, that was a heck of a play he made on that tackle. You could see his feet. He's got natural instincts with leverage. He's just so hungry. The energy.

"He took another step.''

Smith played 12 snaps in the Cowboys victory over Indianapolis this past weekend. It was his first game action since he suffered a gruesome knee injury in the Fiesta Bowl 596 days earlier.
