Crew SC selected Guatemalan midfielder Rodrigo Saravia with its first-round pick in today’s MLS SuperDraft.
Saravia, 22, was named the Atlantic Sun Conference player of the year after finishing his college career at Florida Gulf Coast University last season.
But the Guatemala City native already has ample international experience playing for the Guatemalan Under-23 national team. He has also trained with Guatemala’s senior team.
Saravia, a four-year starter for Florida Gulf Coast, had two goals and seven assists in 65 games for the Eagles.
The Crew’s most glaring need is at forward, with MLS MVP finalist Kei Kamara the only striker on the current roster.
