Midfielder Justin Meram walked off the training field at Crew SC’s Obetz practice facility last week and noted the chilly weather and a bigger-than-usual media contingent that awaited him.
“It feels like we’re going to playoffs,” Meram said.
He is probably right, but that won’t be a trip the Crew will take until next fall. In between will be 34 games over eight months, starting with today’s opener at Portland, a rematch of the Dec. 6 MLS Cup Final. The Timbers will celebrate their 2-1 victory at Mapfre Stadium and raise their championship banner today.
Providence Park will rock, as always.
