Crew SC suspended star striker Kei Kamara for a game against the Colorado Rapids for publicly criticizing fellow designated player Federico Higuain.
But there was some question Tuesday as to whether an unrepentant Kamara will be around Saturday to serve it.
A league source confirmed to The Dispatch that the Crew had been in contact with Major League Soccer teams to gauge their interest in Kamara and Higuain after the Crew blew a 4-1 lead and settled for a 4-4 tie Saturday with the Montreal Impact.
Trades of designated players are rare but not unprecedented. Neither player has a no-trade clause in his contract.
