Soccer | As expected, Crew signs Norwegian defender Nicolai Naess

Crew SC completed its transfer for Norwegian center back Nicolai Naess this morning and remains in acquisition mode with two weeks left before the window closes.

It’s thought the club plans to sign an attacking player prior to the Aug.3 deadline. Columbus also will add a backup goalkeeper after placing Matt Pacifici on the season-ending injury list because of lingering concussion issues.

The Crew (3-7-9) addressed arguably its biggest positional need by landing the 23-year-old Naess from Stabaek in the Norwegian first-division. It’s the same league that produced keeper Steve Clark and striker Ola Kamara.

The 6-foot, 181-pound defender made 74 appearances for Stabaek since 2013, scoring two goals.
