The complexities of Kei Kamara are hard to explain, even for the former teammates and coaches who have known him well over the course of his 11-year career.
It is only fitting.
Kamara, traded by Crew SC to the New England Revolution in a deadline deal on Thursday morning, has lived a wildly varied life. He is, or was, many things: African war refugee, father, husband, first-round draft pick, award-winning humanitarian, occasional malcontent, regular comedian, social-media maven, showman and actor.
Above all, though, Kamara was a goal scorer, the “top aerial threat” in Major League Soccer, Crew coach Gregg Berhalter said.
