If — or, more likely, when — Crew SC goalkeeper Steve Clark allows a goal tonight, he’ll retrieve the ball from the net, reset his mind and body and go on with his life, with hardly a thought given to what it might mean for his goals-against average.
“Do we give up some chances? Sure. But other teams do, too,” Clark said on the eve of the Crew’s 21st home opener. “We just decide to do it in an attack-minded way, and that fits my personality. I’d rather be doing it this way.”
“This way” is coach Gregg Berhalter’s possess-and-attack way, and it is one that has little regard for how many balls end up in Clark’s net as long as more end up in the one at the other end of the field.
