Todd Helton sees Hall of Fame votes shoot up in second year on ballot

Todd Helton got to see a former teammate elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame on Tuesday. And, if this year’s votes are any indication, the former Rockies first baseman’s time may not be too far off.

Helton saw his vote total increased by nearly 66% in his second year on the ballot, with the left-handed slugger receiving 116 of 397 votes (29.1%) this year compared to 70 out of 425 (16.5%) in 2019. To make the Hall of Fame, a player must receive at least 75% of the vote.

Teammate Larry Walker became the first Rockies player to be elected to the Hall of Fame, finally bursting through the Coors Field stigma national writers have long put on Colorado stars.
